your boss tells you that you can go ahead and stop work because they don't need you anymore, did you just basically get fired? Or since you already left a notice, is it still considered quitting?

Yes, you did qive notice and tried to give proper notice, so you officallaly on record as quited, what he did was concidered yor notice, and replaced you so you didn't have to work the two weeks. You quit when you handed in the notice, you were giving them time to relpace you and prepair for you not being there, as well as wrap up what you are doing. If they don't need you any more, they are just allowing you to leaver earlier then planned. You did quit, not fired.

Unless your boss has reason, he cannot fire you because you have given notice. A smart employer will give you two weeks pay and let you go the day you hand in notice...he doesn't want you around to spoil the barrel. By law, you are due your two weeks pay. That is the exchange...two weeks notice so the boss can prepare, and two weeks pay for the notice. IF he is not going to pay you, contact your state board of employment...file a complaint, but have all your stuff documented. IF you have been written up for bad performance in the past, I hope you have copies, for he may try to insert a write up into your files to sidestep the law. Good luck

It's considered quitting. It's actually rather common in IT and admin positions; the businesses would rather let you go early to prevent possible sabotage.

It is appropriate for them to pay you, but if they don't there's nothing much you can do about it. The best thing to do is put on as happy a face as you can and move on to the next job.

Better luck with the next job.

If you put in two weeks, your boss has the right to decide if he needs you to stay or not. But I belevie that you should still get paid for the full two weeks. You should find out what your company policy is.
But no, you did not get fired.

Well, you quit, that's it. If you didn't quit, I don't think they would get rid of you, but because maybe they're upset that you wanna quit, they just don't wanna see you at work anymore.

PS: I want to quit my job too, but I don't want the drama.

Basically they "got rid of you" so yes you were fired, it's pretty low but some companies do that because they are afraid you'll trade secrets...
