Its not only age but rarity. Old objects like 50 year old pennies are not antiques because their are so many of them. But say a 50 year old one of a kind desk and chair. The is well made, that is antique.

To be truly antique the article needs to be 100 years old although the dictionary defines antique as : old fashioned, after the manner of the ancients., anything very old,a piece of old furniture or other object sought by collectors. I suppose that, ultimately, it doesn't really matter. However the definition is regarded by the Customs Office as the following:
Seeking clarity (and a guidepost for what to collect duty on), the Customs Office polled dealers for a definition and from these formulated one of its own. Antiques, they concluded, were objects that pre-dated the mass production of objects in the 1830s. Since the defining moment went back about 100 years, the office defined an antique as something made over 100 years ago. Duty was collected on objects younger than the century-old divider, and it still is.
The definition therefore shows that objects over 100 years old do not attract Import Duty as antiques, those younger do.

by definition,
you can get license plates for a car depending on its age...
i think 20 years is considered a classic..
30 years a collector..
don't quote me on this, but...
when in that category you never have to renew your plates!
........are you looking for rules???
