You're between 30 and 35 years too late with this question. The Love Generation, Flower Children, Peace Power, Bell Bottom wearing, stoned to the max people have all gone away. There are undoubtedly lazy, stinky people who are a drain on society, and surely there are peace loving people who contribute mightily, but none of the above are Hippies. Now, what's your question again?

The term hippie was coined to describe people who understood situations and took advatage. Are people who take advantage unproductive? They may be lazy because they have control of the situation and stinky because they had to work hard to get the control, but are they a drag on society if they don't do things the way they have always been done? Wouldn't it be better to dislike people who are brown nosers and yes men because they don't seek better solutions?

dont see too many hippies anymore. but they sure are not draining society. that award would go to the illegals. they are productive, kind, trying to make a difference in the world, and they are so in touch with their kids. one quality that a lot of other "groups" seem to lack these days. and i love the smell of patchouli.........so no they are NOT stinky!

Hippies in the pure form are the latter. However there are some in society who jump upon the 'hippy bandwagon' who are nothing more than the former and give hippies a bad name.

You had me agreeing with every adjective used until you got to 'productive'. That is not my connotation of the typical hippie. But I may be wrong about that too. It is a pretty broad brushed sterotype you lay out there. It'll be fun to see the responses you get.

Not exactly a relavant era to be asking that. You can get your answer from this definition: I person who, not fitting into conventional society turned to drugs , mysticism and communal living. Good old Websters.
