I am helping to plan decorations for a grattitude party in the fall and have only so much money to work with and I want to get the best I can with the money I have so that the dinner and decor doesnt look like it was just thrown together at the last minute.

If you have a Garden Ridge store, they have the cheapest prices or Hobby Lobby or Michael's or Big Lots. I put together a reception after a funeral for 400 people at my home (in less than a week) and I found some cute wrought iron candleholders shaped like harps that held votives. I found them at a dollar store. I had 40 tables so they cost me $40. Flowers are nice but some little themed centerpiece could be clever and cute too. Good Luck!

Look beyond "flower" and see fall foliage, pumpkins, apples, gourds, squash, nuts, cones, and finally mums (also candles if it is an evening affair). Is there a possible resource associated with the organization -- a store owner perhaps? Farmer's markets in my area have great prices on cut flowers. Hit a Goodwill store on sale day, get some copper paint and paint odd containers for enough vases/plates -- copper is a great fall highlight. Collect fall leaves and clean and polish them with glycerin. Eucalyptus branches in glycerin and water for two weeks turn a wonderful burgundy color and last forever. Keep arrangements low for diners. Think tall for buffet tables.

Since you recognize that "thrown together at the last minute" look, you have an eye for what looks right. Just experiment in advance and you will avoid the last minute...

If you have a 99 cent store in your city....they sell that kind of stuff usually in the back in a corner that you have to dig through. Your artistic talents would prevail here.
