Ok, I bought a treo 400 that was advertised as unlocked on eBay and I live in KY also (go wildcats) and it worked fine, I just put the sim card in and powered it up and it worked great, with out incident, but I am not sure about the time zone and how that will effect your phone, Like I said I bought it on eBay and the seller was from Colorado. I hope that helps you and good luck.

If you buy a PDA cell phone from eBay, how do you know that it will work with the service that you pick? So pick the service FIRST, then look for the PDA.

HEY, some cell phone plans provide a great discount on PDA phones when you buy the PLAN. This might be cheaper than buying some old JUNK from eBay.

Good luck with that.

The time zone has no bearing on whether the mobile phone/PDA will work for you.

But as was said in another answer, you have to be sure the device you get works with your provider. There are "unlocked" phones which work with most providers, and then there are "locked" phones which work with only one or two carriers.

Most companies lock their phones due to contracts with carriers. There are 4 major carriers in the US, i.e., Sprint, Verizon, Cingular, and T-Mobile. Cingular and T-Mobile work off of one technology while Sprint and Verizon work off a competing tech. I would ask the seller which carrier the phone was supposed to be used for.

As long as it is the same provider, then once you get it, and insert your SIM card into the phone. Once you power it on, it "should" reset it's clock to your time zone when it connects to its HLR. Basically the cell tower in your area tells it what time it is.

Some phones will not work with all carriers even if it is unlocked due to the technology, while other phones when unlocked will work with any carrier.

Unlock codes are available online with a Google search, but I would first ask the Ebay seller who the phone was designed to be used with.

Unless the seller on eBay specifically mentioned the carrier the smartphone will work with, OR if the smartphone is sold as "unlocked" DO NOT purchase the phone. Unlocked means that the smartphone will work with any carrier.
