Sister has a gorgous Magnolia, everytime i take a clipping, it dies. What am I doing wrong??

I do not think you can propagate a magnolia with a clipping. The seeds have to pass through the digestive tract of a bird before they can germinate. You can simulate this process by brushing the surface of the seed with a wire brush. Then soak it in a water/vinegar solution for 2 days. You might start the tree in the house where you can monitor the temperature, water, and fertilizer. Transplant when it is 3-4 feet tall.

Rain is right-If you look around in about a1/2 to 1 mile area I bet you will find a small Magnolia tree already started--If so you can, with permission of course, dig it up and replant it--I have always been told that you have to replant the tree facing the the same way it was dug up--I do not know if it is true but I have done Magnolia's and Dogwoods this way and they live--Good luck--
