I'm using a Trendnet wireless adapter and a US Robotics wireless router. The lease is set to never expire, but if I leave the computer alone for only 10 minutes, it expires and reverts to a default address.

Try another wireless adapter. Try another router. If you BUY from STAPLES, just take it back if it does not work.

In general, wireless is fairly complicated. Many people pick wireless because they can. But if the router is right there, use the wire. It's more reliable, and easier to configure.

it might happen because there is some "connection time out" set to router..that makes the router to refresh the connection after a fix duration of time.. try to make that connection time out as "0".
also assign static ip to ur computer in the range of ur router.
also see if there are not other wireless devices which are causing interfrence, for that you can change the change the chanel the devices are using to communicate.

I would suspect that the device is not properly handling your power profile. Find your wireless adapter in the device manager under network adapters, choose power management and unclick allow computer to turn off this device.
