When are we going to realise that the UN is not some all-powerful 'entity' that can solve problems. The UN is the decision-making body for member countries, and reflects the thoughts/policies of MEMBER states.
Let's stop continually blaming the 'UN' for our failures, and also stop trying to impose 'western solutions' on problems that the West don't or can't understand. (Or caused in the first place) There are always two sides to a conflict.
Only then will the UN have some credibilty.

The first thing we should learn is to stop referring to the UN as 'they', the UN is 'we'.

dickn2000: You arrogant little boy! You 'assume' too mamy things. When I refer to 'us' I mean the world. When are you guys going to stop thinking that the US is the be-all-and-end-all in the universe? You cause more problems than you solve.

I'm sure the UN. has good intentions but it cannot act because the USA uses it's veto in order to allow atrocities to continue.
See for yourself:-

The UN. maybe the voice of the leaders of countries in the world, but not necessarily of the people of the world

You fail to grasp the real purpose of the UN. The UN was formed to stop military conflict and agression. It therefore was indeed supposed to be the "all powerful entity" to prevent conflict by member nations from waging war on their neighbors. They have been given an army composed of troops from member nations for this purpose, but when was the last time you heard that UN troops stopped a war anywhere?? Ans. You Haven't!!!
In that mission, they have been a total failure. What good does it do for the UN to pass resolutions, meant to stop conflict, if it is unable to enforce those resolutions?
Please define for all of us what exactly "our failures" are. I'm assuming you're alluding to the U.S. The U.S. has the only military in the world, capable of enforcing UN resolutions. The resolutions may or may not be "western solutions" to a particular problem. For you to suggest that the West, and I assume again that you refer to U.S., can't understand, or caused a problem, shows your ignorance, naivete, and stupidity with regard to world affairs.
Your statement that there will always be two sides to a conflict, again reveals your ignorance, as in most instances, there are many sides to a conflict.
The UN in my opinion will never gain credibility, until they can enforce their own resolutions, thus relieving that onerus task now being performed reluctantly by the U.S.

First off the UN is a lame duck organization that passed resolutions that everyone in the world knows they can't enforce (i.e. the resolutions against Iraq that went unchecked for 12 years). The UN would be great if countries didn't use it to press their own political ambitions. It would be great if the countries all did what was best for the world but they don't. I do beleive each side has story but it is amazing that the U.S. side is always wrong unless it is about the U.S. giving money or aid. Let the UN gather money equally from all countries, dollar for dollar, and when some one needs aid the UN can give it to them.

The UN has only been powerful when the use of force has been the backing....of course the only times that has happened the US was the force backing it.
As far as referring to it as "we". What has the UN ever done for the US other than a butt ton of unpaid parking tickets in NYC. Personally I think the US should pull out of the organization so that it will fall and something better can be created. The UN has become too political.

As you say, "the UN is the decision-making body for the member countries". That is a key phrase, because the majority of the UN representatives are now Third World, pro-terrorist representatives that hate the USA. It doesn't matter that the US taxpayer is seen as some sort of cash cow upon whose back the UN representatives think themselves and their organization are ultimately entitled to ride.
To truly understand the bogus nature of the UN, please read the reference book supplied as my source, then see if you have the stomach to make the statements you did when asking this question.

Not right to blame UN. It is the powerful members who browbeat UN. War in Iraq was started without UN mandate.
