When should you start doing lamaz class? And do they have instructional videos to do at home instead, my husband is a pilot and it's hard to schedule things. Do you have to visit the hospital you'll be giving birth at? What do you do there???? I'm 19 wks along right now and haven't been told this by the doc yet, I guess later on he would but I'd like to know what everyone else did. thanks 1st pregnancy!!!!!!!!!

I watched the videos so I knew what to expect, but I didn't take any classes. I registered at the hospital so everything would be done when I arrived and I'd know where to go, but I didn't take a grand tour. I had a bag packed with everything I needed. Don't forget to bring Chapstick -- your lips get dry from breathing so hard for so long.

With my first pregnancy I went to a couple of classes about child birth, but did not attend Lamaze classes. My husband was in the military and away while I was pregnant, so he would not of been able to attend. I think the most important thing is that you have a helpful and supportive person with you during delivery to help you stay calm and breath with you. My husband didn't know any techniques but when it is time, you will just know what to do. I say if you want then it would be an experience that you have done the classes but you do not have to have them to survive child birth.

i didnt go to a lamaz class but if i did i would go around my 7th or 8th month....are you on wic? if you are then there are a few classes that are mandatory when your pregnant like a nutrition class and breastfeeding class but those you can go on your own...i did. No you dont have to visit the hospital your going to be at unless your doctor says you have to....where i live i had to bc i had to preregister to have the baby and for my epidural (its stupid but i had to do it) If you havent been to the delivery rooms where your going to have your baby i would recommend you go and check things out...this way you'll know what to expect when you get there. When i had my son i did the nutrition and breastfeeding class for wic and thats all....they showed me what to do in the hospital and what they didnt show me they had videos that i could watch (although i slept durring all the spare time i had and didnt have time to watch any) you might be able to find some videos at your library....or you could ask your doctor about parenting classes.

The clinic I went to was attatched to the hospital, the obgyn docs were on the 5 th floor,so my doc had already scheduled a tour for me in my 23rd week. We signed up for the pregnancy classes at the hospital and they also did the lamas along with talking about pregnancy, what you should and shouldnt do,ways you can exercise..get your body ready for labor and watched videos of labors too. It was nice to be able to see the birthing center,so I kind of got a feel for what to expect and what kind of room I would be in, they told me what they would do as soon as I arrived at the hospital in labor and showed me how the bottom half of the bed comes off when its time to push.
Ask your doc about that stuff, it's comforting to know what your surroundings will be when you go to the hospital in labor being scared and excited at the same time.

Not at all. After all, how do you suppose people had babies before Lamaze? To be on the safe side, just have the baby by Cesarean and you can sleep through the whole thing and wake up to a beautifully formed and undisturbed infant.
