I am 11 weeks pregnant and I have been reading about labor and stuff I know that a mucus plug comes out when you are about to give birth but what does it look like?

Actually, I didn't lose the mucus plug with my first birth, but I did with the second. At the risk of sounding silly, it's a mucus-y little glob that you'll see on your panties. Mine was a little brownish, as I recall (it's been awhile). You won't feel anything. It just kind of happened for me.
BTW, I lost my mucus plug on a Saturday morning, but I ended up having to be induced on Monday afternoon, so labor may not occur immediately after you lose the plug. So, if you're in the middle of Target or something, you definitely have time to get home! :)

It's also called a show when it appears.
A mucus plug is mucus blocking entry to the womb to stop infection getting to your baby. If you have a "show" then it's best to avoid sex but still get check over by your doctor.
The mucus plug looks like a gooey blob with a bit of blood, It's about the size of your thumb nail which is normal. If there is alot of blood then go to the hospitla or call your midwofe & ask her for advice.
The mucus plug usually comes out when your contractions start but can fall out as early as 36weeks, but it's nothing to worry about. If in doubt contact the hosital,doctor or midwife!

"bloody show" its like a little more than spotting. you can pass it and still not go into labor for a few days to a week.
in my case, i "passed my mucus plug" and then my water broke about two days later.

mine was like snot slimy and gross but it wasnt bloody some peoples might be bloody but mine wasnt. it didnt hurt or any thing. youll know when it happens to you. i was on the toilet when it happened to me it wasnt all at the same time either i think it happened in like 2 or 3 days.
