Not forget the 500.000 hill-tribe people living in the border areas to Thailand. The Myanmar military still make raids and burn village and kill the people. It happens always. We just don´t hear about it.
I live with these hilltribes for some years and have seen a lot. But sad to say - and what not so many know is, that as long Thailand feed the Myanmar goverment with money to keep them in charge, then it will not be better. And why do Thailand that.? Because Thailand will loose their head income from tourist if Myanmar open their relative closed borders. The tourist stream will turn to Myanmar instead because they have so much to offer in sights, unspoiled beaches and so on. Thailand can not afford that. So they think its better to keep the Myanmar military goverment in charge - so the borders will be "closed"
