No, a cold is a different infection. You can, however, catch a cold while you have the mumps. Anytime you have an infection or your immune system is compromised for any reason you will often get a secondary or opportunistic infection. This of course makes you even more miserable than ever. If you have the mumps and a cold you have my sincerest sympathy!

All you can really do is treat the symptoms. Stay in bed, drink lots and lots of fluids -- you know the drill! -- however rest and staying hydrated IS key to getting well.

I don't know how you can get mumps in today's world with the vaccines, but I had them as a kid and they're a b****.
I don't really recall that you ordinarily get a cold with the mumps. I suppose that you can get both at the same time. Maybe mumps even make you more susceptible to a cold. I don't remember if I had a cold with mine. You'll be so damn miserable with the mumps you wouldn't notice the cold if you did have it.

do you mean chills that make you cold that is possible with the mumps and yes i think you can get cold like systems but don't worry they go away in a few weeks my sister had the mumps so i took care of her.

I had mumps before and I didn`t got the colds with it, luckily.
