I'm just trying to find out if a alternator off a car would recharge a 12 volt cordless drill battery?

no they are different amps it will burn it up

A cigarette lighter plug in is all you need and make sure the polarity is correct. Why does everybody want to make this so difficult? The engine will need to be running too, or it might take awhile to finish the charging process.
