Ireland is a country much like the old Tibet. Its religious institutions have way to much power. BUt within the confines of this countries culture, what was done to those women was not only acceptable, but neccesary. In order for them to rejoin society and take a proper place therein, they had to readjust themselves to a proper outlook. It was sort of like a religious boot-camp.

No one should be forced into something like that. It's horrible. Makes me doubly glad that my great-great-grandfather came from Ireland in the 1800s.
