Disneyland was the work of a visionary creative who wanted to provide an idealised version of America and the future in a fun park, combining his own creations such as Mickey Mouse with European literature such as Alice in the Wonderland and Pinnochio. Yet all many people can do, including those who would claim to be intellectual, is to derride it as frivolous, sugar-coated and empty- an unrealistic paradise. Yet, with all the wars and pain that are part of life, everyone should applaud the magical fantasy that Disney created.
