Pot, like alcohol and many, many things, does tiny amounts of brain damage when used. Our culture was raised on the idea that marijuana is a mind altering demon weed and that it can lead it's users to act irresponsibly. Ironically, the people that formulated that nonsense were probably enjoying a few martinis as they put their ridiculous ideas together.
But once this stigma took hold, and other recreational drugs became dangerous, people blindly accepted that marijuana must be the same as heroine or PCP. No one wants to hear that booze is at least as dangerous, if not more so. Alcohol is addictive and results in some people show them to get violent, belligerent, and outright combative. How many potheads start throwing punches at their friends while passing the joint?
Our society is so narrow minded in so many ways. It will kill itself to keep from admitting it was wrong...

Pot's a funny drug. It reacts differently with different people, and the syptoms of long term use can vary considerably. Even when used medicinally, the benefits that one person gets from it won't be the same, and can even be opposite for someone else.
But I think if you're not hittin the bong 5 times a day every day, then you're probably okay. If you are smoking that much, you should strive to maintain a good amount of honest self-awareness so that if you were to become "stupid, apathetic or lethargic" you'd be able to recognize it.
Party on.

well when your dealing with the kinda weed I have you can understand. I have had a really heavy shipment of hydro from BC that I have been smoking all summer and this **** is crazy. I feel like I'm on something a lot stronger when I do it. I can barely speak after I smoked. This is the kinda weed that can cause a lot of trouble. also try some white or black widow from europe, that can make you high for DAYZ.... also when you smoke you tend to accomplish NOTHING so you waste a lot of your life.

I have no clue. I have been smoking bud now for 30 years. I have several degrees. I am a career professional. I am not ill, I just like the buzz. People tend to think that pot is addictive and it leads to other drugs and I am living proof that they are wrong!!! I have never tried any other drug in my life and I am not addicted. Pot has not taken over my life!!! I am a very educated, confident and professionally employed woman.

Like anything else, moderation is the key. The negativity is mainly from government propaganda; if they can make everyone believe pot is something horrible and perverse, then very few will squawk when thier neighbor's house, cars, and bank accounts are confiscated because a roach was found in his son's room.

it dates back to a law passed in 1937 that was designed to criminalize the behavior of "low-lifes". For historical reasons, the temperance movements for alcohol and pot went two different directions.
I've known a fair number of users, and light usage by them doesn't bother me. But I don't care much for hardcore stoners, and it's a great way to burn money.

It affects everyone different, just like alcohol. Ridiculous the number of people in state and federal prison for small amounts of pot

There are a lot of reasons not to. For one thing, it makes it easier to get into harder drugs that will jack you up much more quickly. Secondly, its probably going to stick you in the "wrong crowd". Thirdly, can't you find something better to do with your time?
