The new jaguar estate is the best by far, it has the largest boot, best fuel economy, nicest looks, 4 wheel drive, sat nav, and is under £27,000. otherwise go for the subaru legacy!

Define best! Money / size / beat the neighbours / power / MPG / etc etc ... the best 'drivers' one would probably be Alfa Romeo, the safest (passenger wise) probably the SAAB, outright power maybe Audi. BMW is a poser car whilst Fords are probably the best all round. Do not rule out KIA / Skoda and such. Maybe not much in the 'oh look what he's driving' but surely valuve for money ..

Ford would be my choice in the reasonably priced bracket.
Parts and service are easy to get and they go well enough.
Can't go wrong with an estate best of both worlds.
A wise choice

I use a Renault Grande Espace (98) It is the biggest estate I could get. It can carry a double bass, two bicycles and three people together and it does almost 40mpg!

We have 2 dogs and we had a Volvo and now a Saab estate, i loved them both and i think they are very safe and reliable and have a lot of space inside.
