Buddies is regional dialect - not everyone will say it because in the second vocabulary it means like a newby to the secrets. The proper English vocabulary or the ordinary usage of the word friends means what the dictionary says. In the second vocabulary it means those who are part of the winners circle. Good luck in your work.

Friends are the ones you tell your closest secrets to, buddies are just people you pass by in life along the way

You can't rely on your buddies because they are the ones you get drunk and stoned with. You know. The ones who put LSD in your drink and don't tell you until after you are trippin' your balls off and you are driving. A friend is some sober dude who always offers to drive you places because you're just too wasted.
