Some already have speculated that such an event could happen, as to wide spread rumors of base closings in the rural south. But that is all gossip really.

Americans have lost the stomach for war and are not so easily motivated to take up arms. It would have to be a big, huge, enormous crack in the soft pampered lifestyle we enjoy as a country. I think in all odds, it is more likely we have a close war with another country on our soil before civil war.

Of course, the South could rise again...but football pretty much eases that out.

Most unlikely and I certainly hope not. there have been 2 civil wars already & that is enough. (Yes the revolutionary War was a civil war. The Continental army fought British regular soldiers, Hessian mercenaries, and local United Empire Loyalist militia) As with the other civil war families were sp[lit apart, and friendships rendered for good.More than 250,000 people left the colonies after the war. (many were driven out). they settled in Canada, Aus., N.Z., the West Indies, and Great Britain.

Aren't we having one right now, so to speak? Without the weapons and battlefields, I think we are and will for a very long time until we give up our reliance on oil and the middle east. Red and blue states, people on such opposite sides of the fence that you can't even talk politics to your neighbor without fear of offending someone or getting into a huge argument? I don't know what you call a "civil war", but this is pretty much how it all started, wouldn't you say?

It would seem that Rushbo, O'Reilly, and Coulter, not to mention Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Rove have got conservative half of the nation foaming at the mouth with those of us that still believe in Civil Rights and Negotiation over War.

I wouldn't be surprised if the right gets so deranged with hate that they start killing liberals the same way the Hutus killed the Tutsis in Rwanda.

It's pretty scary reading some of these posts from them.

Unfortunately, yes. Too many conflicting views, rasing taxes, basic injustice, the government fails to protect, politicians are corrupt, the judicial branch is taking over the rest of the branches. The list goes on and on. And it very clearly states in the Declaration of Independence that when a government no longer serves its people, that body of people have the right to rise up and overthrow it. Just like we did 250+ years ago.

Yeah if we get very many people like GWB in office. At some point people will rise and kick out our Gov and replace it will something new. This don't mean it will have even one single tank roll but could be done by voting on new bills entered. The higher ups going to jail and on and on. But yes it wil happen and is going on right now.

the yank civil conflict did no longer have an sufficient ideological premise on the area of the southern states nor did the north have any sound premise the two...(economic premise definately...) and maximum mandatory, it choose under no circumstances have happened, citadel Sumpter became a chilly exercising in expending gunpowder and shot and there became lots of room for negotiation.Be that because it ought to,it did take place and the rift it led to and its after effects eco even on the instant, left an rather bitter south and the exploitation of the south agravated the embittered human beings much greater;northern instruments moved to the southern states with the mentality of the conqueror no longer with the choose to heal open wounds;even Lincoln's goverment, inspite of president Lincoln's choose to repair fences, did no longer something to aleviate the bitter emotions. The Appomatox affair(renounce of R.E.Lee) became like the renounce of a much off places military and did no longer something in direction of unification(certainly, that became the article of the conflict on the area of the north...)of united states of america-the recent military after the peace did no longer contain a single southern unit althought instruments like the 1st Virginia Brigate the (nicely-regular Stonewall brigate) commanded by using the wonderful wide-unfold in the two military(or so wrote the northern newspapers at that factor...)Tomas Jackson, deserved to affix the U. S. military( as a count of delight for its checklist and a greater helpful step in direction of unification).it is straightforward to re-ignite emotions returned.. however the climate nowdays isn't condusive to such conflict because of aspects that did no longer exist then and the involvent of united states of america in international affairs is such that any incident of this nature must be very detrimental to the safety of the country.

Yes, it is possible.

However, it's more likely in my view that we end up doing something like Nazi Germany instead, and having the rest of the world fight us. It's possible that it could happen even within the next three years, depending on what happens after 2008.

Americans will need a leader to start a revolt. No one is taking the role, so I think not. Too disorganized...
