Boy oh boy did you swim a hammer and hit THAT nail on the head. They're more like opinion channels than news. If I want opinions I'll go to Yahoo Answers. Hey, I'm already here, guess what I'm not watching?

Very much so,the media has in recent years has gone to the extreme of giving their own opinions in reporting, networks as cnn on 24 hrs aday pulsing out their own words and not stating the facks, the media runs amok because they have the public in a believe the that what is said is true, there so much yellow journalism going on today the networks realize this ,but its ratings the better the story the more viewers will tune in to watch, the networksdrive their opinions more so during elections, and thr broadcasters announcers give more of their personal believes instead of the facts.

A cursory review of the nightly news cast would put it past the realm of feeling and leave no doubt that ALL news media today are interested not in reporting facts, but in swaying or influencing public opinion.

As a Journalism major, I can tell you that nobody is being taught to just report the information; a quick poll of Journalism students today (and probably for the last 30 years) will tell you they are doing it to "make a difference". Well, just how are you going to attempt to change things unless you put a slant on what you report?

It's more than just that, though. Now that news has to get ratings and readership to survive, news agencies are forced to stick with the "juicy" story (or juice it up if it is too vanilla) to get people to listen to their version. When news became competitive not for the story but for the ad revenue, we lost our free press. They are now slaves to the lowest common denominator, the flashy headline, the shocking video clip.

And yes, the vast majority is left-leaning. Anyone who says differently has zero credibility. Geez, even honest liberals admit it's slanted their way, and they are thrilled that it is, it's just another tool to gain more power.

Oh, I definitely do. Almost all reporters will have some slant on the news as few can separate fact from belief. The previous poster that thinks they are right wing is so left that his perception is wildly distorted, however. They mostly tend to lean left. Fox is the closest to neutral even with their few right wingers like Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter. Bill O'Reilly is more neutral than most will admit... I think he's just slightly to the right. For those who think Fox is right wing, you need to listen to Rush Limbaugh for a few weeks, then Fox will sound more neutral. This from my own relatively unbiased viewpoint.

'nuff said?

I don't know what that McRandall guy is talking about haha. He's waaaaaaaaaay off base if he thinks there is right wing slant.

Fox news presents both sides, when there is a debate, both a liberal and conservative are there.

Not to mention, Fox News is killing everyone in the ratings.

True. Also do you think what they really report is news? It's obvious the Government tells them what they can and can't report on. Seek Truth.

Of course they do. Which way they slant their info depends mostly on which way the network leans. This tends to be towards the right.

I'm pretty sure they spin some facts to their opinion and omit others for the same reason.

I do. I know the movie critic of the Boston Globe got busted for giving crappy movies good reviews so he never even went to see the movie. Someone paid him to write all his reviews.
