I don't think that either is necessarily better. It's more of a matter of the couples ability to communicate, work out their problems, and being loving and respectful of each other.

I think it's a little of both. Too much of being opposites I don't think works. Like if one person is humble, compassionate and caring and the other doesn't show any compassion for man kind. I think you have to have some of the same likes and dislikes in a relationship for it to work. If you do not, then you drift apart. It's important in a relationship to do things together that matter to you both, but also to have your alone time to refuel for the world we live in today.

I think that the real question is " do you think that two people who share many common points of interest / reference have a greater chance of success than those with far fewer points ? The answer is yes I do.
Two devout Catholics one an extrovert the other an extrovert would stand a greater chance for a successful relationship than a similarly tempered Catholic and a Muslim.
Bob Dylan put it best. He said that it is not enough to be looking at the same sky, you have to be looking at the same horizon

Well I feel i can answer this from first hand experience. My ex wife and i had NOTHING in common once our son grew up... We were two different people with nothing to share or talk about. Now the lady I'm with now we share common interests. Are able to hang together, have plenty to talk about. Makes for a friendship as well as a relationship. Of course all this stems from the individual either can work.

depends its a mixture of both if you are to much alike you may always agree on everything and this can sometimes get to be annoying or if you are to different then all the 2 of you will do is argue a good median of alike and not alike help even out a good relationship.

No. I think opposites bring variety to a relationship and keep it from getting boring. My husband and I are total opposites. He is traditional and straight laced, where I am the wild child. We have been happily married for 10 years and hopefully will live long enough to see 50 more years of marriage. :)

both actually, but for me my husband and i are so alike and we have more things to talk about...we are never bored with each other.... we are like soul mates... we have been together for 3 years in oct. and married 1 year this dec. and we talk like we just met... we can talk for hours at a time.... i think if two peeps are alike they have more in common to share... and no suprises...that is what i like...it really depends on who you are and what you like....
