I have just been seen by the doctor and he/my parents wants me to get a CI, I am fine with it. But you have to be evaluated for one. What should I expect during the evaluation process?

Hi Rosie. I have a CI and got it when I was 13. That's more than 10 years ago right now so I don't remember everything perfectly. As far as I do remember, there are a couple of different things. There are the hearing tests...you should be used to those, nothing really unusual. And then there was this test when they put an electrode on or in my ear (I don't remember exactly) and they stimulated it somehow and I had to say whether or not I could hear the sound. It was just to make sure that the CI would be able to stimulate my ear properly. I didn't like that test very much, though.

Things might be different now because a lot has changed in 10 years.

I have to warn you that after I got the CI turned on, it was a really difficult time in my life...I did NOT like the CI at first and I didn't understand any of the sound. You have to be prepared for that, and be prepared to work hard at it. I didn't start using it full-time for about 5 months.

It looks like you're asking a lot of questions about CIs...can't you talk to your parents or your doctor about this? Do you have friends with CIs you can talk to? You really need a support system!

And don't listen to SweetBrunette...what she says is not true, ok?!!

Let me know if you have more questions!

You have to be stone deaf in that ear, otherwise don't do it. You will be at risk of losing the hearing that you already have. That is why my doctor refuse to do that surgery on me.

No clue sorry, but I know my friend has one of those, and it's AWESOME, lol. I love how he can adjust it and crap, and it's funny cuz if a teacher has his little thingy, they forget to turn it off and he hears their gossip or he can completely turn it off in class so he doesn't have to pay attention. Haha, that's great!

Good luck! ^_^
