May the sun bring you new energies by day,
May the moon softly restore you by night,
May the rain wash away any worries you may have,
And the breeze blow new strength into your being,
And then, all the days of your life,
May you walk gently through the world,
and know its beauty and yours.
OR
Now you will feel no rain,
For each of you will be shelter to the other.
Now you will feel no cold,
For each of you will be warmth to the other.
Now you will feel no more lonliness,
For each of you will be a constant companion to the other.
Now you are two bodies,
But there is only one life ahead of you.
Go now to your dwelling place,
To enter your days of togetherness.
OR
"And now you shall feel no pain, for each of you shall be comfort for the other. And now you shall feel no rain, for each of you shall be shelter for the other. And now you shall feel no cold, for each of you shall be warmth for the other. Now there is no loneliness for you. You are two persons, but you now share one Unity of Purpose." This was read at my handfasting, and then a year and a day later, at my wedding. It was on a large card that had Native American symbols on it. Since it was read at our handfasting, we wanted it to be read at our wedding. Here's how the whole thing went:
Handfasting explanation
Handfasting is an ancient tradition which refers to one of two types of ceremonies, either a "wedding" or a betrothal of a year and a day, which the participants can then decide to renew or not at the end of that period. On September 17, 2003, Tom and Becka were handfasted. The following was read on that day.
Reading #1
True love is a sacred flame
That burns eternally,
And none can dim its special glow
Or change its destiny.
True love speaks in tender tones
And hears with gentle ear.
True love gives with open heart
And true love conquers fear.
True love makes no harsh demands -
It neither rules nor binds;
And true love holds with gentle hands
The hearts that it entwines.
It is now a year and a day later, and we welcome you, friends and family of this happy couple. We come here today to witness the joyous celebration of the love between Tom and Becka, supporting them in their decision to be joined as one in the presence of our company.
