From the time I filed for divorce it took less than 5 months (with his agreement). Without his agreement if you can prove when you separated then you go through a two year separation and then file for divorce. If you can't prove when you split then I assume its 2 years from when you file for separation through a solicitor.

If you are planing to go through the divorce, do it as soon as you can. My brother in law is separated from his ex wife for 5 years. They had 2 houses together, he lives in one and she lived in the other. The house his ex lived in was lost to foreclose. She now is fighting for part of his house and it seem she may win

If you get a lawyer, it can be quicker, depending on circumstances. Usually the best method is the no-fault divorce ( 18 months seperated, I believe) and for a smaller fee the paper work can be processed much cheaper.
