Your boyfriend is eating something he loves too much. He has to do an elimination diet - cutting out first the things he eats the most of, then he'll find out what's making the smell, and then avoid eating it. Most bad odors are caused by eating too much of what you love the most.

Could be a health problem, but also likely due to bad diet... fried foods, fatty foods, etc. Try laying off the fast food and replacing with broccoli, salads, etc.
