I know it was called the USSR under Stalin, but what was it called under Lenin?

Actually, Russia was NEVER called the USSR. The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics was made up of 15 so-called "independent republics" which included the largest, the "Russian Soviet Federated Socialist Republic."

The USSR or in Russian. Soyuz Sovetskikh Sotsialisticheskikh Respublik (CCCP) was formed in 1922 while Lenin was still the leader.

That means that under Lenin, Russia was called the "Russian Soviet Federated Socialist Republic."

transliterated: Soyuz Sovetskikh Sotsialisticheskikh Respublik - SSSR.

It existed from 1922 to 1991 and was formed from the union of four SSR and grew to include 15 by 1956. Before the initial union Russia was Russian SSR or Russian Sovetskikh Sotsialisticheskikh Respublik.
