just moved in new house with above ground pool. Found out they haven't cleaned pool in about 4 years. Would not come clean. Drained it got out all the nasty black sludge on the bottom. But when refilling liner seems to be pulling on the pool sides. Can this be fixed or should we just get a new liner?

Above ground liners will often "shrink" if left empty in the sun for very long. If that has happened your only recourse is replacement. I can't see it so I can't say for sure, but from your description that may be what has happened. Put a little water in the bottom-- enough to come up on the walls a couple inches. Examine the liner carefull. You will know then. Good luck.

As a rule, no pool pro ever advises you to drain a pool with a liner over 5 years of age. If you do, your run a lot of risks. What you're seeing is one of them. Vinyl has a tendency , at over 5 years, to shrink when the water is out of any pool. It can also become, if it's not already, extremely brittle. Your liner will be a 27 millimeter in thickness (the thinest avaliable) and furhter prone to shrinkage. If it's already filled to a foot in depth and you still see a great deal of cove where the bottom meets wall, chances are, the weld there will let go as you fill it further.. It'll sound like a rifle shot when it goes. Been present at one where the homeowner went against our advice. You've got most of the water out, I suggest going with a new liner now. There won't be any wait period for it, as it won't need to be specially made for an above ground, it'll be cash and carry and you won't have a mess on your hands if that weld fails and it will eventually.
