I'm 45. I'm in Alaska. I think I'm a decent guy (dedicated father, environmental engineer, president of a women's shelter)

Chat about Alaska: I enjoy it here. I was visting since 1979 and noticed that when I'd gotten to all 50 states, it was the one I was coming back to the most often. For the scenery, outdoor recreation, sense of adventure and opportunity that are common here. We moved up here 8 years, I built our house and have managed to work throughout the state.

While SE Alaska is very pretty on a sunny day, those are pretty rare. The Aeutians are dramatic but so very remote and often wind-blown. Fairbanks has a nice small-city feel to it and a wealth of area around in to play in. Anchorage is too much and too tacky a city for my tastes, although we all end up shopping there. As the joke goes, "the nice thing about Anchorage is that it is very close to Alaska." (implying that a quick drive will get to the real Alaska).

If I didn't need to be connected to people and airlines for work, Cooper Landing would put me right where some of the best hiking and biking trails are. As it is, Kenai/Soldotna seem a nice balance of wheather, recreation, business and connections.

What else did you want to know?

i recently spent 3 months in Alaska, drove up from Central Illinois. I love the people, the scenery and even the weather. There are alot of decent, hard working, real people up there. I drove from anchorage to the Brooks range and everywhere in between. The people are wonderful. If possible I plan to move and spend the rest of my life there. If am a 45yo man and to me or anyone like me it is Shagri La
