If you are a shopaholic then I think £1000 should be ok for everything (unless you are thinking of buying a louis vuitton suitcase or something! lol). You will probably spend around £30 more or less on food per day for breakfast/lunch/dinner/snacks. As you are staying for a week that would total up to £210.
A 7-day travelcard will cost you about £22, but if you want to to get a 7-day ticket for zones 1-3 it will cost you £26 (I don't think you really need to go further than zone 3...plus the main attractions are in zone 1+2 anyway which is the central part of London). Also, at some point you will probably get sick of waiting so long for the bus and don't feel like taking the tube either so you might opt to ride a taxi...so lets add sayy another £20 to your travel expenses.

Food: £210-ish
Travel: £42-ish
Sightseeing etc: £100 (maybe?)
= This already adds up to £352-ish -- well let's just round it up to £400 just to be on the safe side. Now this is only for food, travel, and sightseeing. Don't forget about the shopping!

So now you have to predict how much you think you will spend on clothes, souveniers etc etc!

Hope you enjoy your time in London!

You will need more than you think: london is expensive. Your best bet to buy a week season ticket for the metro that will allow you to travel in any zone. Attractions are between £5-£35 entry, depending on where you are going to. Scan the internet for any money off coupons, for example for madam tussauds. expect to pay a few pounds extra for lunch than you would in another part of the country- £20 if you just want something casual with max 2 drinks. I would say £350 is a good estimate, better to have too much than too little, and if you want souvenirs, bear this in mind too.

Keep in mind that the price of things is going to be about the same in Pounds as it is in Dollars but a Pound is worth about twice as much as a Dollar. Most "touristy" things like the Tower of London and Westminster Abby are expensive to go see but really are worth it. So just think of what a day out on the Town is going to cost you at home but double that and add some for some historic sight seeing.

London is expensive. Difficult to walk everywhere because it's a big place. Look out for bus passes which give you unlimited daily travel at one price. You can then see the sights, jump on and off at minimal cost and avoid the tube (metro) which is hot and crowded.

london is quite expensive,
eye had been £15,
try the lunch at the OXO, just along the river , lovely but slightly expensive, great view for the price,
tube £10 for a one day tube travel card, the last time I was there,
bus? pay before you get on,
have fun and watch out for the pick pockets.

If you are going to stay with friends, then £50 per day would get you into a lot of attractions and buy some nice pub lunches and still have money for buying trinkets.

Figure out a budget and double it. It will be worth it though. Cheers.
