To be conservative, means tending to preserve established traditions or institutions and to resist or oppose any changes in these. Something both the Democrats and Republicans have forgot.

Conservative is a broad word. I am going to assume you mean in America what the word means. It means several different things. A Fiscal Conservative (for example Barry Goldwater) would be someone who believes in a balanced budget, believing in laissez faire economics.
Also there are paleoconservatives. Paleoconservatives would be the old right. For example, Pat Buchanan. PaleoCons are a little difference then fiscal they wouldn't mind have protectionism policy for trade.
Another type of conservatives are neoconservatives. They are pretty new on the American political scene. They are opposite of the paleocons and believe in free trade. An example of this would be Paul Wolfowitz.

Its really good for bizarre politcal ideologies, ie libertarianism, liberalism, anarchism, etc.

A conservative is a hypocrite. He says he believes in financial conservatism, but has no problem running a trillion dollar debt to Communist China. He says he believes in strict construction of the Constitution, then supports torture (prohibited by the Constitution), holding people without bail (also prohibited), holding people without trial (ditto), and spying on peoples banking records and personal communications without a court order (ditto again). They say they stand for moral purity but allow massive financial corruption (the Medicare Drug Benefit for only one example) and of course the war killing thousands needlessly, and rolling back environmental protection resulting in birth defects and deadly diseases. On and on. A conservative is a fool who does not think for him or herself, but accepts all that Rush Limbaugh says as Holy Gospel.
