I would take him to the hospital just to get him checked out. It might not be anything serious but Tuesday is a long time to wait. I'm a first time parent too so I know how you feel!

Your ped.'s office should have an on call doctor to answer all your questions. If he is running a fever over 100.3, then take him to the ER immediatly, because it could turn into pnuemonia. Otherwise, it really isn't that serious. On average and infant may get up to 9 colds or ear infections in their first year. It actually helps build their immunities. Keep sucking the the mucus out and use saline nose drops to help dry up the congestion. They are safe to use and you can find them anywhere. A humidifier works well, too. If you do not have one, turn on the shower for a few minutes and shut the door and let the steam build up. Then sit in their with your son for 5-10 minutes at time. It helps with breathing. Doctors will tell you not to give your child any cold medicine until they are at least 6 months old.

Don't give him any meds without talking to your pediatrician. At one month old he is too little to guess what dose and he could get more sick. Some things that have helped my little boys are, bringing them in a steamy bathroom and then sucking out their nose (steam breaks up the mucus), Johnson & Johnson makes a soap called vapor bath, put a little in a warm bath, a humidifer (you can buy vapor stuff to add to your humidifer). If your baby gets worse take him to a med center or ER. It might seem drastic but at one month old your baby hasn't had any vaccines and a cold can go from bad to worse in a small child quickly. A rectal tempature over 100.4 degrees in newborns is something you need to be seen for. Most hospitals have a nurse number where you can speak to a nurse as well.
Good luck, I know being a first time mom is tough. I am sure you are doing a great job, Keep your head up and remember sometimes extra snuggles make a world of difference in your baby's comfort :)

Green mucus doesn't always mean an infection. Mucus can change colors when has been sitting in the sinus cavities. You are doing the correct thing with suctioning out his nose.
He will breather easier if his head is elevated.
If he sleeps in a crib raise the head of the crib up one notch.
If he has a swing put him in a swing or even a bouncy seat.
A boppy pillow would work too.
Due the risk of SIDS a pillow or anything like that should be used to raise his head
Keep an on his temp. Hopefully he'll get over this soon

I have 2 children. i think it's just a cold but they can be more serious 4 young babies, if he has difficulty breathing or is wheezing take him 2 the hospital.
4 now u can buy something like karvol capsules, u cut off the end and drop the liquid on2 a piece of tissue and leave it next 2 him, this will help clear his nose and is perfectly safe on small babies as the health visitor advised me 2 do this with my son when he had a cold at just 2 weeks old. but u cannot use things like vicks or calrub as these are 4 older babies.
all u can do therewise is be there 4 him, even small babies enjoy a cuddle with their mum when they r ill, it makes the world of difference 2 them.
good luck

Give him some Tylenol. Don't stick a syringe up his nose, but gently wipe with a tissue - you could be putting more germs up his nose and indeed could damage his nose. Then take him to the doctor tomorrow - if the mucous is green it sounds like an infection which might need proper treatment.

If he is running a fever over 100.3 take him to the nearest prompt care or ER, he may need antibiotics since the mucous is green. 1 month is kind of young to wait until Tuesday. Don't give him any meds for the first time without consulting a Dr, PA or nurse practitioner first.

im a first time mum and the best advice I can give is too trust your instincts and if you feel he needs medical attention insist on it. that's what they are there for anyway. My son was in hospital at 3 weeks old as he was ill, he 4 months now and doing fine so don't panic cos these things do happen. try to stay calm cos your react more rationally then ( I know thats far easier said than done!) I gave my son calpol at 4 weeks and he's fine but best get medical advice first. good luck I hope that helps.

He probably is miserable, he can't breath out of his nose. I would never give a baby that age anything without a doctors approval. Try a cool air humidifier in his room or a sudicare menthol plug in (avaliable anywhere). Also, running a hot shower and standing in the bathroom with him will help losen the congestion and help him breath.
IF all else, you can try a NON_MEDICATED nasel spray or make your own salt water and place a couple of drops in each nose.
Good luck!

Don't ever give an infant over the counter medications unless they are prescribed by a doctor first. Babies are very small and do not tolerate medications like adults do, you could overdose a baby even on a small amount of medication that is made for older children and adults.
