The instruction book simply stated to never remove plate once attached, do not put in water (of course) and do not spray. I read that once it is clean I can spray it with Pam or something similar but can't figure out how to clean it in the first place. Help if you can.

A little WD40 would work. Spray, allow to soak,
wipe of with old shirt. Repeat as necessary.

Remove the spark plug wire for saftey.
Now take the plate off and clean it.

scrape it off with a screwdriver or putty knife, would be the only way i can think of

What kind of trimmer is it? gas or electric?
