a friend of my wife recently called me asking about her car??? IT seems she has some enemies that put sugar in her gas tank. i have heard about this happening , but have never actually had any any experience with rectifying the problem. any suggestions on what she can do to prevent her car from biting the dust???????????

First confirm the problem. This having actually happened is a criminal offense, BTW, as it involves major damage.

1. Was sugar found in the area of the fill cap? Sugar granules would be present 99% of the time, IMHO. Then,
2. Was a sugar slurry or grainy syrup present in the gas tank when the drain plug was opened?
3. Was the engine started at all, and (if so) did sugar/gas burn until the engine locked up?

If confirmed as above, then this is the grim outlook:

"If there was sugar in the gas tank and the engine died, your next step would be to replace the engine. Sugar turns into hard carbon when it is burned and tears up the inside of the engine. Beyond any hope of rebuilding."

Probably too late. A long shot, after the fuel system has been thoroughly cleaned, run it at about 3000 rpm and spray water ( down carb or in air intake)until the car starts to die, repeat many many many times, it could break down the carbon in the cyilinders and purge it through the exhaust. Of course it will ruin any catalytic converter and maybe the muffler.

Works for valve build up, but never had sugar.
Locking gas cap for the next one though. not 100% but better than nothing.

I would be afraid to start it so maybe get it towed to the auto mechanic. I have heard that after this happens getting a tune up is the best bet. But mechanics specially designed for her type of car should be able to help a lot more.

Don't start it.

The entire fuel system needs to be flushed. (Tank, lines, filter, pump, etc.)

Figure.....$300 or so.
