You can go to school for computer technology to learn how hacking is done, however, I advise you to get your mind on something more constructive. You can prevent being hacked by keeping your firewall on, having a good antivirus program, not opening attachments from anyone you do not know, and watching where you are going. Hackers are looking for your SS number and credit card numbers, so do not enter these online. I don't know of anyone who would ask for your SS. As for your credit card, always look for the padlock on the lower right of the screen, and https instead of http before you make an online purchase.

hacking involves in depth knowledge in two areas:
1) a programming language
2) the opertaing system you want to 'hack'

In regards to websites, you have to protect yourself against what someone could enter into your forms (called injection attacks) as well as what someone can do against your server.

hacking is not a glamorous thing, and many people try to offer programs that already do what you want - but you can get malware/spyware/trojans on your own computer from these if you're not careful (after all a hacker is giving you a program?)

Your best bet is to make sure you have a disaster recovery program.

1) keep back ups of all your systems so that you can restore them quickly.
2) Run your site on multiple servers, if one goes down - the other is there and working.
3) If it's extremely important that your site never go down, repeat #2 at a separate location. That way if location #1 has a disaster (earthquake, tornado, hurricane, etc..) location #2 can still work.

A hacker is a person who creates and modifies computer software and computer hardware, including computer programming, administration, and security-related items. The term usually bears strong connotations, but may be either positive or negative depending on cultural context (see the Hacker definition controversy).

In computer programming, a hacker is a programmer who hacks or reaches a goal by employing a series of modifications to exploit or extend existing code or resources. For some, hacker has a negative connotation and refers to a person who "hacks" or uses kludges to accomplish programming tasks that are ugly, inelegant, and inefficient. This negative form of the noun "hack" is even used among users of the positive sense of "hacker".

In computer security, a hacker is a person who specializes in work with the security mechanisms for computer and network systems. While including those who endeavor to strengthen such mechanisms, it more often is used (especially in the mass media) to refer to those who seek access despite them.

In other technical fields, hacker is extended to mean a person who makes things work beyond perceived limits through their own technical skill, such as a hardware hacker, or reality hacker.

In hacker culture, a hacker is a person who has attained a certain social status and is recognized among members of the culture for commitment to the culture's values and a certain amount of technical knowledge.

The real fun is knowing how machines communicate to keep the internet up and running!

Microsoft.com, Hotmail.com and MSN.com, each run on 15,000 Linux computers because they are virus free and hacker proof.
Google.com runs on 100,000 Linux computers. 165 nations use Linux as their official OS for all public information, to run the infrastructure!

There are now over 800 Unix clones that are FREE to use.

If you want to learn what is 'under the hood' of that hotrod, then you can study Linux. even as you use it!

how about hacker proof LiveCDrom Linux! I burned the ISO to the CD, rebooted, and, removed all the hard drives! Then, I am on the Internet, and only am running from the RAM disc!!!
