When I clean out my pond, I turn all the pumps and filters off and clen them. Then the heavier stuff that it can get, I take a net or use my hand and scoop it out. Its better than buying a pond skimmer.

I don't have a skimmer on my pond (wish we had put one in) so I use a net along with the biological filter to keep it clear and the debris off the top. I also let a hose run into it a couple times a week to overflow through the low area. This cools down the water and helps to wash away some of the single cell algae. I don't have chlorinated water which makes it possible to do. A great product to use to clear up any murkiness is "Accu-clear".
