The cost is the same, so it doesn't matter.
I don't buy the car for racing. Safety is the top priority for me.

Mazda 3 no question. American-made Focus is crap. Don't take my word for it. Check both of them out yourself and you'll see the quality difference between the two.

I like the interior of the Mazda 3 because it really feels upscale, like something you find in a Audi. The Focus looks like an econo-box.

Definately, the Mazda 3- go with the s it has the safety features. They're not the same, ford is a ford. mazda 3 is based on a Volvo s40 platform. Consumer Reports just rated the Mazda 3 5 door(hatchback) the best in it's class. It beat out Saub and Audi both. I've had a 3s 5 door for 7500 miles and love it. reliability is ixcellent.

Ford owns a share of Mazda so don't expect a huge difference in cars because they are techically the same car but rebaged and different bodywork. You still get the same engine under the hood. However Mazda offers plenty more options than Ford and is a generally moe reliable and consumer friendly company rather than Ford.

They ar ebased on the same overall platform, but the Mazda has a better suspension, more comfortable seats, and less econ-o-box style. Plus you get Mazda service which is better than Ford. Go for the Mazda.

Please choose Mazda. Ford cars suck, their Trucks are ok. Ford and all U.S. Automakers only care about a quick profit. Japanese care about honor. Go to Carsurvery.org and you will see how many have lost money on U.S. cars.
My Mazda truck is a 1982 with 236000 miles.35 mpg. and will go another 200000 miles.
