YES.I have heard of this but it is uncommon. It is a variation on the nausea and vomiting theme - due to the progesterone effects on the smooth muscle of the stomach.
It is true that most of the literature on this implicates psychological distress or depression. But thyroid dysfunction, diabetes, and liver problems have been associated with this as well. In most women, it eases by the 20th week which is good because the baby really cannot grow and develop as efficiently as he needs to if the mother's nutrient needs are not being met. You may see signs of intrauterine growth restriction by 24-26 weeks if you are not getting adequate calories. You may also want to test your urine for ketones which are by-products of fat metabolism and these can be toxic to baby's brain,
I would recommend that the calories that you do get be dense with nutrients. Eat Total or Product 19, sports shakes or Ensure. Vitamin C can stimulate appetite so consider drinking some juice upon arising in the morning and waiting an hour to eat breakfast.
I really believe this will ease up and your body will do what is best for your baby. Try not to be overly concerned or anxious and it will resolve on its own.

Most definitely, Iost my appetite all together with my 3rd child, managed to lose 7lb in weight in the first 4 months, which was quite worrying, in total I put on 141b and by the time my son was born I was a whole 10lbs lighter than I was before I started. I recommend though that anyone who does lose their appetite to try and at least eat something if only tiny meals every few hours, because I was under a constant barrage to eat all the way through my pregnancy and every time I went for checkups they threatened to take me in hospital because I wasn't gaining enough weight.... but my son weighed in at 6lb 14 and now is a strapping lad of 6ft 5...

When I was pregnant with both of my girls I could not eat a thing, the only time I had an appetite was before I knew I was pregnant, that's how I found out. On my second pregnancy I gained one pound and that was my last 3 days of being pregnant, after I had the baby I was 44 ibs lighter. My doctor was not concerned at all I have to admit I was, if I did eat I threw it up, I did have to force myself to eat for the baby. They were both very healthy babies.

I'm 22 weeks pregnant and I have days when I'm really really hungry and can eat like a horse and days when I just can't face food of any kind and just want cold drinks and tea. My boyfriend goes mad at me if he comes home from work and finds out I haven't eaten yet - he forces me to eat something! I think sometimes its just your body's way of telling you what you and the baby needs. The idea of "eating for two" is nonsense, you don't need to eat more food, just make sure you and the baby are getting all the necessary vitamins and minerals you need. You can take a pre-natal multi-vitamin supplement to help with this - thats what I'm doing, so if I have a day when I don't eat great I know the baby will still get all he needs.

It varies with each pregnancy. For my first, in the beginning I couldn't handle or eat red meat. But for my two others, i was fine. I didn't eat a whole lot more than I usually did. I thing I gained like 14 lbs for my third. Every one is different. Oh yeah, and all 3 of my kids were born healthy!!

I completely lost my appetite when I was pregnant, and even lost my love of chocolate, which was a shock since I'm a self confessed chocaholic.
I was so shocked after my daughter was born and I could actually eat full meals again.
I don't hink we could get an answer about what most women feel like and do because everyone is different.
