Studies have shown that lack of sleep decreases growth at an early age, it can cause sporadic memory losses, and obviously fatigue. Sleep is a period in which the brain can re-cooperate the body as well. The immune system can strengthen during sleep.

I'm an advocate for sleep myself. I don't procrastinate for that reason. I don't want to stay up late the night before something is due.

Depending on how often you are not getting enough sleep...it could lead to sleep depervation, it could make you sick, or possibly hospitalize you....your body can only function so long on limited rest. When we rest, our body "recharges", if you cut that time short, then you are cutting your body's needs short. Over time this can age you as well. If you do not take care of yourself, your body will show signs.

Years ago, i was working 2 jobs where I worked from 9-2 waiting tables in a great restaurant, and then from 4pm-2am, I was a cocktail waitress. I didnt get home until about 3am-4am, hand to wind down, and was up getting ready by 7:30am...after a month of this only getting 3-4hrs of sleep, it really hit me. I was coming home from my late job, and fell asleep at the wheel as I was turning into my subdivision. I did $500 damage to the entrance wall, and not to include how pretty my hood looked. I quit my day job that very same day, and was lucky it did not happen sooner on the interstate.

Besides the obvious: fatigue, inability to focus, etc....studies have shown that people who don't get at least 6 hours of sleep do not live as long as people who do. And the same goes for people who sleep over 8 hours. Interesting huh!!!
