I agree with Rosary.
Fall into a deep, deep depression.
Smoke a few cigs, drink a bit.
The music will flow right out of you.

Writing songs can be the easiest or hardest thing in the world.
If you write a song you must first have it copyrighted so that no one can steal your song.If you are a music expert and you are creative you should find it rather easy to write songs. If you have no ideas you might find it rather hard to write songs.I think your mind goes blank because you don't get out much.Maybe you should get into more adventures. You should have your songs copyrighted because I once wrote songs and I used my keyboard to make the beats and rythyms.Well to make a long story short I lost the tape that I made.I was watching Mtv about three months later and I saw a song on T.v. with the same sound, beats, and rythym as mine.I felt like I was raped or violated .That is why if you write a song you should have it copyrighted. If you want to write a song just write a little bit of the song each hour or each day.For more details on my story e-mail me at irenitaassensoh@yahoo.com

Try to write out of your own experiences, things you know about, relationships, emotions you have, how you feel about whats going on around you locally or globally. A good way to get this 'all out' is to grab a piece of paper and 'mind map' where your at. In the centre of the page write down your name or something that means something to you. And the get a pen and draw off some lines coming from that word with other expressions, words or feelings which came from the centre..and continue that process like a chain.. until the whole page if full of your thoughts beliefs and feelings. Should be enough for a whole albums worth!!

Think about: things that bother you that are happening in the world; personal experiences with love and/or loss; people you know; the ways you'd like the world to change for the better.

I used to try to write songs, and always had more luck with lyrics than melody...good luck! Just start trying, and it may get easier once you've done a song or two. You don't have to show them to anybody at first if you are embarrassed.

Also..some jr. colleges have courses in this. How much musical background do you have in terms of any instruments? The piano can be helpful.

Inspirations are like erections; you don't will them, you get them. Nothing will come of contemplating a blank mind. Go for a walk, a drive, do some chores; something to get your brain going, but only at a low level. Then a snatch of song can pop into your head and your conscious mind can get on with developing it.

well, it depends... usually i need to be depressed to write a song.. not the best answer, i know, but it's a case of trying to working something out through my mind... what i usually do is simply play around on a chord sequence for a while until my brain starts trying to figure something out over it... sometimes the words come first though, but that's very rare, in my case... i dunno... it's kinda like going to the bathroom after eating.. it just happens and is hard to explain...

Steal from obscure songs that no one knows. For instance the national anthem is stolen from a sea shanty ! TRUE!

jam out a bass line then add words to the feeling. go with your own natural flow. that's music.
