To start with rearrange our relationship with the US, they are a useful ally but currently we are no more then a sycophantic poodle.

Then abolish the House of Lords and replace it with a democratically elected second chamber with a twelve-year mandate. In order to keep it as a law making/reviewing chamber rather then a political body.

Then install proportional representation along the lines of the German/Dutch model. Hopefully this will encourage governments to think beyond the next election and we might start getting long term strategies rather then short term gratification.

Revisit the 1945 health act to bring back free health care at the point of demand. One of the key factors in judging a civilized nation is the treatment of the weak and sick.

Review and radical alter our education system such that we can produce people who are probably trained not only for work but can think and critically challenge the status quo. Degrees in leisure studies does not mean your workforce have an education.

Try to reinstall the concepts of pride and duty. Pride in the country we live in. (not chest thumping patriotism) but realisation that Britain is in fact not that bad a place to live in compared with quite a few other places in this world, lets celebrate what we have. The concept that if we wish to enjoy the fruits of a peaceful, safe and prosperous country we have an obligation to play our part, in terms of obeying the law, (or alter it by democratic means) vote (this should be compulsory) and willing take part in jury service when called.

I would get tough on immigrants.
I would do an overhaul of the benefits system and be tough on scroungers and benefit cheats.
I would help the elderly more.
I would scrap council tax and introduce a fairer taxation system.
I would make sure that all these murderers and rapists didn't have a cushy life in jail at the taxpayers expense and enforce longer sentences.
I would make reforms to the NHS.

Although i sympathise, I would put a stop to immigration for a few years. UK is just not big enough, it's only a small island and nowhere near large enough to cope with the influx of immigrants. i would also stop handing out state benefits to them, giving them large houses and cars. This might make them think twice before coming here.
