I formated my wife's computer a couple of days ago and since then it's been acting really weird. It now takes about 30 -45 minutes for the computer to boot up and all the while there is a message saying "scaning e: for consistancy" ... then "cannot find boot sector in e:". I found this wierd because I only formated c:. Of course it doesn't help that my wife's computer is a Compaq but surely there has to be a way to fix this. Can any one help??

Compaq is notorious for partitioning the hard drives. Usually on the 2nd partition is the restore information. They do this to keep from supplying the restore CDs that used to come with computers. To solve your problem, you probably need to go into DOS from the command prompt and delete all partitions on the hard drive. Then recreate one single partition and then reformat and reinstall windows. Its a bit time consuming but it will solve your problem.

Make sure that you have copied the restore information to a CD before you do this. If you delete the partition, all info on that partition will be lost.

Your computer might be too old. You might either need to update your computer by getting some newer parts and replacing the older parts or just buy a cheap computer until you have the money to buy a real good computer.

Go into your bios settings and make sure the computer is booting off the "c" drive FIRST, instead of starting with a different drive.

Get the dealer to reformat it. Next time, don't try reformatting it if you don't know how... It could cost you a guarantee
