The name of the synth they used a lot during the late 1960's early 1970's was a VCS03 and was an early Analouge, valve state modulation..patch board oscillator synth. Unfortunatley they didn't have digital back then so it was created using very basic gear. All that stuff on Dark side of the Moon was created with it Via some tape effects..speed/reverse. They also used a Binson Echo unit too a lot..A reel based tape loop effect. Dave Gilmour liked using Leslie (rotary speakers) used by Hammond organs for the tirppy guitar work and Uni-vibe guitar effect..check out the intro 'Breath'. The rest was post production, overdubbing, doubling up on guitar tracks and vocals to make them sound 'big'..lots of reverb, chorus, and echo..and of course samples of voices, birds, people etc.

There were these crazy synthesizers that were used(and still are) called "Moog". It was created by this man with the same name. You can make all kinds of cool sound with it. I think it's like a keyboard and this crazy control board that's attached to it. Check out this website for more info! Hope this helps you out!

the 'moogs' have been around longer than some of the people on here and yes you could make all kinds of synth sounds, analogue mostly but very effective.

Guitar effects and electric pianos. With electric piano's you can simulate any instrument pretty much. And there are boxes with switches (The Edge uses this) that can give a guitar the same sounds as Pink Floyd used.
