...still living in the dark ages regarding human sexuality?

There is ample evidence that being homosexual is a genetic predisposition, not a lifestyle "choice", yet we continue to question whether it's "alright" for someone to be gay! You might as well ask if it's all right for them to be born in the first place!!

Regarding female sexuality, we are even worse! 3 out of 4 women still are given misinformation regarding their reproductive health by their doctors and pharmacists! We condemn women for taking birth control, when many are using it for health reasons. We tell married women not to have sex with their husbands if they don't want children? One out of four women in America will be raped in her lifetime and we still say she asked for it! We still think that a woman's sex drive is the determining factor for how "good" she is as a person. We still tell women that they don't belong in some fields of career choice because they are too "emotional" due to sex hormones?! Opinions?

Mountainman: while you make some valid points, why the viciousness of your attack? Was that really warranted?

I am speaking from years of observing the world around me, and the experiences and prejudices I have witnessed. Willful ignorance of such basic, important concepts scares me and frustrates me. Especially when it is used to judge and alienate people. Speaking as a woman who was raped, and lived for years under the shadow of guilt, I think I have a right to my "rant". Think about what I am asking before you lash out. As for living in the real world, I am a life scientist in biomedical research and poverty alleviation. I do not exactly sit on my a$$ all day doing nothing and living in my own world.

To answer the question, "what am I doing?"- I am reaching out to raise awareness, sharing my experiences, and learning as many facts as I can. I volunteer with troubled youth and answer their questions. I volunteer with women in the 3rd World to help them learn. I overcame my own guilt and anxiety. I am not afraid to join or start frank discussions about sexuality. I stand up to gay bashers in real life. I write to my Congress representatives. How do you support what YOU believe in?

There is ample evidence that being alcoholic is a genetic predisposition.

There is ample evidence that being a violent criminal is a genetic predisposition.

You are still talking about lifestyle choices here as all three chose which way they will go with their predisposition.

Scientists have argued ranking intelligence over the validity of ordinary IQ trying out as opposed to challenge fixing. Given the latter, simply utilising a calculator is an act of intelligence in itself. When watching again on the ancients we will handiest consider what used to be an typical ability, or wager at what disorders challenged the minds in different occasions. Certainly a few of the exceptional mysteries which might stupefy evaluation have been a exceptional social recognition and the fabricated from collective works identical in scope to the progress of our knowledge techniques. Then I could say we're on par with our ancestors, who could have little proposal how we completed this international of wonders. For participants, chiefly Western humans, what disorders we are facing to remedy are readily fewer, or extra specialised, consequently mostly much less traumatic. The effect is the collective intelligence is much less, however that's no longer a bodily walk in the park, simply what participants are currently given to achieve. I think that are supposed to the will come up intelligence will broaden.

Who is "we" ? Are you speaking for yourself or blaming all of society for the people who aren't better informed or educated? I believe all the things you have ranted about are very narrow minded. In the history of mankind there has never been more information available, in more forms(books, magazines, newspapers, television newsmagazines, PBS programs, the internet, classes) and if individuals aren't availing themselves, those individuals are to blame. There is no excuse to be uninformed in this day and age. Great strides have been taken in every area you referred to in your question, but you seem to be demanding a perfect society. Dream on. A perfect world is a commendable goal, but like world peace, it will never be achieved. And what are YOU doing to alleviate these problems you have mentioned besides expressing your anger?

Phobias, religion, religious expressions, intolerance, deliberate ignorance, fear. I think that covers all of it.
