I'm what you might call a productive lazy person. I've found that working toward solutions to problems is far better than just complaining about or giving in to them. Once a problem is solved, life becomes much easier. Case in point: why give a man a fish and feed him for a day, when you can teach him how to fish and feed him for a lifetime? There are many examples like this. Why can't more people realize this?

To Penny: If more people would get off their lazy butts and contribute to society and work for smaller government, there would be more resources to help those that can't help themselves.

It's not so much an oxymoron, but an irony.

However, it's a fact of life that life needs maintenance.

Even in the Bible, "work" existed before there was sin in the world. God put Adam in the garden of Eden to "work" it.

It is true that if one sits on one's butt and doesn't maintain life, things will quickly go south. That's just the law of entropy (I think that's what it's called). Things tend to go from a state of order to disorder. Test this by neglecting to clean your room for a week or so. Before you know it, it will be a mess. So it is with our lives in general.

Love, Jack

Yes, I agree, you get rid of problems by dealing with them and the sooner you do it, the less time you have to live with the problem - - but to answer your ? - I think that advertising creates alot of unnecessary wants and dissatisfactions in people - and what I saw on my last trip to the USA [ representative of the Western World for me ] was an ever greater assault of get rich quick scheme advertising.. I think that there is so much of this type of advertising that people feel that they are doing something wrong if they are not fabulously wealthy [ in only ten minutes a day ] - which I am sure must be more appealing than the reality that you have arrived at -- - these others are just not past that point yet..

Somewhere along the line a lot of people swallowed the idea that they can have it all, and have it now--and with the minimum of effort on their part. We can have a great deal if we're willing to work for it, but somehow the idea has morphed into "the world owes me a living" for a lot of folks. As if they *deserved* everything on a plate. Life is not a makeover show...a team of people is NOT going to turn up on your doorstep and redo your house/life just because it's you.

AMEN! Preach it on a SUnday morning!

It IS so much better just to think, "okay, I don't like this. I can either change it or change my attitude towards it. Pick one and move forward."

I find anything other than that, is like a slow drain and the depression builds.

Dear friend, your are talking of something that decides if a man wins or loses in life. Many people just want to TRY to get their destinies and not just want to get it.So they are just afraid of doing something new,of earing to live.they are afraid that they might have to do something difficult. So when their fear dies there won't be any ails in their lives. Life might get too dull.....

I agree with you that work is that which makes life easier and purposeful.
People do not resort to this as they hope and expect others to do their work. It is called "Asura Pravritti" - demonaic mental state. If you wish to discuss this indetail you can get into contact with me or /and study (not just read) Bhagavad Gita (ch. 2,3,5,18)

People prefer problems they can't solve to solutions they don't like.
