At least writing exhibits the confusion and conflictions of your thoughts. Repeated attempts adding the feed back each time, makes your thoughts coherent. Writing makes you perfect.

As long as you don't worry and take it as a "rough draft", yes...it's like a jigsaw puzzle, you pour all the "pieces" out on the paper, and then you can step back and have a better perspective, change them around, etc...Writing things down for an exam (like recopying your notes etc) helps reinforce what you heard in class because you are re-processing the same information in a different way; instead of hearing and taking notes you are now focussed on what's already there on the paper. That helps you notice any gaps, mistakes etc.
But you should wait until the next day to do that, so you can come to the information with fresh eyes.

Writing down your thoughts gives you brain space to think of other things.

The more things you think the better chance you have of reaching a decent conclusion...

It does for me. Putting my words on paper (with a pen or pencil) helps me to organize my thoughts on whatever I am writing about. And putting my words on paper stops them from running in endless circles in my mind.
