If you are a resident of the USA, visit the county court house. The recorder of deeds has records, usually from the time the house was first built.

The best place to start about trying to find out the history of the house you live in is through the local historical society. This is assuming that you want to find history, not just "previous owners".
If your town or county is fairly old, there will be a historical society or local archive or something like that. Talk to them about the neighborhood and street you live on. Perhaps there is even the possibility of finding out your house.
If you're looking for previous owners, which can be a source of good information at times, that information usually can be found through a titling company. Find out which company helped title your house in your name (it should be on the title itself) and call them up.
Take all that info and you can possibly contact the previous owners and find out from them some oral history on the house.
