I do not agree with your premise that "ethics complicate things and make people confused..." Ethics help to make order out of what might be chaos. Many professionals are guided by ethical standards: doctors, lawyers, accountants. The standards are there for two reasons; 1. the professionals want everyone in the profession to do a good job. 2. It would be impossible for governments to create laws to cover all situations.
The point of studying ethics is to learn what is ethical. Knowledge is never a bad thing.

I don't know if this is what you're looking for or not, but I think the only way in which ethics complicate things is in throwing up barricades for people who would prefer to conduct business in an underhanded manner. If some people are confused by ethics, often it's because they can't figure a way around them. If there were no ethics to provide some ground rules for everyone to play by, we would live in a very chaotic would.

Ethics are confusing because they differ from one culture to the next.
There is one ethical code that SHOULD be followed throughout the world, and that is to respect each other's rights.

Simply put, ethics is a moral foundation for which to function on. Business ethics for example, help prevent copyright infringement of both physical and intellectual property. It helps create order.
