who can hit fours and sixesand also defending?please judge with both test and one day cricket.

It is difficult to compare these greats.Gavaskar has a test avg of 52 but he faced some extreme fast bowling in the likes of marshall,holding and many more even without proper protection gear like helmet etc.,Where as sachin has a test avg of 55.5 but not played the likes of marshall etc.,and played with better protection .so u can't compare these two players.
Even Imran khan said the same thing of this question.

Sachin is more good as he has more runs and a lot records than Gavakar. I don't mean Gavaskar is bad.He was also the hero in his time and he has proved it to the world.Sachin has already broken all records set b Gavaskar. First of all a record is made to be broken.

In my opinion Sachin plays more better than gavasker. As from the time of gavaskar now a days cricket has been become a difficult game and it is difficult for a batsman to survive on the pitch. I will say that as the sachin has broken all records set by gavasker so sachin is more better then gavasker.

both played very well but i like sachin due to his batting sytle way of playing& many so sachin is best.
