i just completely restored the whole thing and now it wont turn on period....

i cant help you about him being gay but i can give you this:
1.see are the battery's put OK
2.see is the battery empty so try to recharge it
3.connect him to comp so try to erase all songs or something
4.disconnect any addon that you have plugged it in him

Throw it away, thats about how much they are worth, since iPods are in the bottom 20% when it comes to quality.........Shoulda thought bout that more b4 u spent 300 bucks LOL
