well, if you want an open chat, then simply you click on chat in the messenger, then you choose the room you like and click on go to room
If you want to chat with a specific person who has a yahoo ID then you need to add him/her first, then he/she should accept your request and start chatting

open your messenger. go to the top left. click messenger. scroll down to yahoo chat. then click join room pick a catagory and your set.
